2020 P1 Q29 - Deducing Arrangement of Dative Bonds in Octahedral Complex
Let's take a look at 2020 A Levels H2 Chemistry Paper 1 Question 29.
We are asked to deduce which diagram correctly shows the arrangement of the 6 coordinate or dative bonds in an octahedral complex of ruthenium.
From VSEPR (Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion) Theory under Chemical Bonding, we have learnt that a species with octahedral shape will have 6 bonds perpendicular to each other.
