Let's take a look at 2019 A Level H2 Chemistry Paper 1 Question 23.

We need to deduce the structure of compound Y based on the following info:

Carboxylic acid W which is chiral can be converted to X which then reacts with a cycloamine to form amide Y.

Since W is chiral, Y should be chiral as well, which means Y contains a saturated carbon bonded to 4 different groups.

Also, since the structure of the cycloamine is given, the amide in Y should contain the same cycloamine structure.

Now we can go through the options to choose our best answer.

Option A is our best answer since a chiral carbon (marked with an asterisk) and the cycloamine are both present.

Option B is wrong since there is no chiral carbon.

Option C is wrong since the amine is not a cycloamine as the nitrogen is not part of the cyclostructure.
