2019 A Level H2 Chemistry Paper 1 Question 24 - Determine Organic Compound Reacting with HCl
Here's 2019 A Level H2 Chemistry Paper 1 Question 24.
P dissolves readily in cold HCl to form a solution which yields a crystalline solid on evaporation.
This means P contains a basic functional group that neutralises HCl to form a salt solution.
On evaporation the solid salt or ionic compound is obtained.
Comparing the options,
Compound A is a ketone which is neutral.
Compound B is an amide which is neutral.
Compound C is phenylamine which is basic.
Compound D is phenol which is acidic.
Therefore the answer to this question will be option C.
